Injury
The struggling Reds are already beset by plenty of injuries this young season, but they felt the latest – an injury to catcher Tyler Stephenson on Tuesday night – was an added insult that some of their teammates didn’t appreciate.
During the Padres’ 6–2 win at Petco Park, which extended Cincinnati’s losing streak to eight games, Stephenson left the game at the bottom of the first inning after a hard collision at the plate with baserunner Luke Voight.
Collision
A quick recap of the play: With one out in the first innings, Juriksson Proffer scored a double shot in the left field corner. Voight, then at first base, took off. Hawking Slugger scored the third goal and was going outside the plate. Farmer’s relay throw carried Stephenson to the outside of the dish, as Voight began his slide. Voight appeared to spin back inside, but he couldn’t escape Farmer, who tagged – and hung up on the baseball.
Stephenson out due to injury
It was a tough fight. Voit is listed at 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds. Stephenson stands at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. Stephenson, with no momentum behind him, bore the brunt. On Wednesday, he entered the list of injured who was shaken for seven days.
“It was, obviously, going to be a close game,” Voight said Tuesday night. “You obviously don’t know where the ball is going to be. It just happens, man. You can’t really explain the situation. I try to escape, try to be safe. That game’s over.” done.”
Stephenson, would later shout via Twitter: “The only thing that mattered is he was out.”
Wife

Fantasy
The Cincinnati Reds are taking out catcher Tyler Stephenson from Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres after a collision with Luke Voight at home plate. Aramis Garcia will move from DH to C, meaning the Reds will lose their DH for the rest of the game.
Stephenson is one of the better offensive catchers in baseball and was batting. .267 with two home runs coming in Tuesday’s game. They are being evaluated for possibly a shock, and an update on their status should be available soon.
