He is the grandson of former NFL coach and current NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs.

He probably didn’t know how good he was until Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.
Ty Gibbs, son of Coy Gibbs and grandson of the Washington football team’s Pro Football Hall of Fame coach, won his first career NASCAR National Series debut, capturing the Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway road course on Saturday.
Fight
Gibbs started the second overtime before teammate Brandon Jones pulled him out of the way. Jones went for the win. Gibbs and Meyer leapfrogged each other’s racing Landon Castile to second place. Meyer finished fifth. Gibbs, who was looking for his fourth win of the year, hit the wall to finish eighth.
After the race, Gibbs overtook Meyer’s car on the pit road. After getting out of his car, Gibbs went to the mayor, who was also out of his car. They had a discussion and Gibbs pushed Meyer before walking away.
Meyer went back to Gibbs and he pounced as Gibbs attempted to open his HANS device to remove his helmet.
Gibbs hit Meyer in the chin with the right hand followed by another right hand hit that hit Meyer in the face. Gibbs remembered Meyer’s face from the left.
The two were dragged to the ground as officials and others tried to crack the scam.

After losing a fight for victory on Friday night in the Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway, Ty Gibbs and Sam Meyer proceeded to fight each other.
Brandon Jones was celebrating on the frontstretch as the brawl unfolded just a few feet from where AJ Allmender was preparing to celebrate receiving Dash4cash. That was all it was after all.
Gibbs lost the bottom during the second overtime attempt and Jones filled the hole—remarkably driven away by the most impressive car of the race.
Meanwhile, Gibbs and Meyer found themselves in second and third on the final lap and ran for $100,000. They finished three-wide with Landon Cassill and contact with Meyer as a result of the fight pushed Gibbs into the wall at the final corner.
Official results show Meyer as fifth and Gibbs as eighth.
