“Man, totally scary when someone goes down like this,” Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said on the set of Prime Video after the game. “We play a dangerous game.
“Tua is a tough guy. … It’s good news that he’s back with the team.”
At halftime, Prime Video analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tagovailoa’s teammate in 2020, tried to contain his emotions.
“As an announcer and analyst, I’m having a tough time right now,” Fitzpatrick said.
In any context a potentially devastating blow to the previously unbeaten Dolphins, Tagovailoa’s latest physical blow would come under further scrutiny after he briefly abandoned a Week 3 win against the Buffalo Bills, which was reported as a head injury. but was later characterized by quarterback and McDaniel. as a back injury. The NFL Players Association launched an investigation into Buffalo’s handling of Tagovailoa’s injuries and whether concussion protocols were properly followed.
The matter remains open.
McDaniel objected forcefully to the notion that Tagovailoa’s issues against the Bills were a contributing factor to Cincinnati’s situation, saying he should not be head coach if he is deliberately exposing a compromised player.
However the union weighed in more on Thursday night with a statement that read: “Player health and safety is at the core of the union’s mission. Our concern tonight is for Tua and we look forward to a full and speedy recovery.” Our investigation into potential violations of protocol continues.”

“I talked to him today and I repeated the same thing because he was bringing up to me, ‘Man, I hope I don’t miss the X, Y or Z game,'” McDaniel said.
“And I said, ‘Tua, let’s stop it now. Don’t even think about a game. Let’s just think about doing it the right way to listen to everything, to get the opinion you need. And Let’s worry about you and your head and being a healthy person and we’ll worry about playing football later.'”
