Playing today:

Tua Tagovailoa will not start for the Dolphins on Sunday when they host the Houston Texans in Miami, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The second-year quarterback is dealing with a small fracture in the middle finger of his throwing hand and it has not recovered enough to allow him to start in Week 9.

The injury is not expected to keep Tagovailoa out long-term, but, because the team has a quick turnaround with a Week 10 game against the Ravens on Thursday night, his status for that game is also in question.

Maryland:

Things got chippy in the second half of Maryland football’s game against Penn State on Saturday in College Park.

With the Terps facing a first-and-10 on the Nittany Lions’ 36-yard line trailing 7-6 early in the second half, quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa escaped the pocket, rolled right and threw an incomplete pass down the sideline as he sprinted out of bounds. While trying to slow down, Tagovailoa was shoved the ground by Penn State reserve defensive tackle Fred Hansard, who was standing on the sideline with his teammates.

Taulia Tagovailoa

Tau Tagovailoa had hardly played a meaningful snap at the college level before he joined the Maryland football program, yet he represented a fresh burst of optimism.

Taulia followed his older brother to Alabama in 2019, but he transferred to Maryland after one season because he wasn’t going to win the starting job in year two.
