He played college football in Alabama, where he was the offensive MVP of the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship and received the Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards as a sophomore. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was taken to a local hospital with head and neck injuries in Thursday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tagovailoa hit the ground with the back of his head when he was sacked by Josh Tupo by the nose of the Bengals, and his arms seized up almost immediately. He remained on the field for about 10 minutes before being loaded and carried on a stretcher.

The dolphin said shortly before halftime that he was conscious and had movements in all his limbs at the hospital, University of Cincinnati Medical Center. After the game, he said Tagovailoa is expected to be released from the hospital on Thursday night and return to Miami with the team.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa called him when he went down.

“I could tell this wasn’t the same man I was used to seeing,” McDaniel said. “It was a scary moment. She was assessed for a concussion. She is in concussion protocol, but she is being discharged.

“It’s an emotional moment. It’s not part of the deal you sign up for. His partner and I were very worried, but he checked out and it’s nothing more serious than an injury.”

Injury replay

NFL players begged Amazon to stop a replay of the injury that forced Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to be pulled off the field in Week 4.

Thursday night’s football game between the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals took a break for serious and horrific matters.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was fielded during a play where his head and back hit the ground. Tagovailoa remained motionless as training staff looked after him, where he was eventually put on a stretcher and taken off the field.

While Tagovailoa was undergoing treatment, Amazon Prime kept showing replays of the injury. Current NFL players and those who are no longer playing called for the broadcast on Twitter to stop showing the injury and replays of Tagovailoa in the position he was in.

Some of the players who responded include Arizona Cardinals defensive end JJ Watt, whose message was retweeted by Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
