Triple H sat down with Stephen A. Smith in a touching interview on ESPN’s First Take, which will air in full on Stephen A.’s World later tonight. In a candid, emotional interview clip, Triple H admitted that his cardiac event was life-threatening, and that he would never wrestle again.


Citing his viral pneumonia, Triple H said he had fluid in his lungs and arms and that his heart ejection fraction was reduced to 12%. A normal ejection fraction is between 55-60%.

“By the time I got to the emergency room, my ejection fraction had dropped to 22,” Triple H said in a revealing interview.


“Joe, I was in heart failure. Bad. By the next morning – as they figured it out that evening – when they did an MRI and they were sending me for a heart, my ejection fraction was below 12 So I was nagging and kind of where you want to be—or where you don’t want to be—a one-yard line, really, to your family and your future.”
