Sunday was supposed to be Trey Lance’s big debut as Kyle Shanahan’s hand-picked San Francisco 49ers franchise quarterback.
The Bears, on the other hand, had other ideas.
The Bears’ veteran defensive leaders had been preaching all week that Lance, the No. overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, needed to “prove” he could beat them with his arm.
That test was not passed by the North Dakota State product.
In rain-soaked Soldier Field, the Bears held Lance to 13-for-28 passing for 164 yards and an interception.
