The Ducks have signed center Trevor Zegrass – whom they drafted in the first round in 2019, ninth overall – to a three-year entry-level contract, the club announced Friday.
Zegrass, 19, Bedford, NY are native to. He scored 11 goals and 36 points in 33 games with Boston University of the Hockey East Conference this season and was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. His Ducks contract hits an annual salary cap of $925,000.

Injury
On September 19, the Anaheim Ducks faced the Colorado Avalanche as part of this year’s Rookie Showcase tournament. For fans, their joy of hockey returning was quickly overshadowed by fear when the Ducks’ top prospect, Trevor Zegrass, was injured early in the game. Ultimately free of injuries, this led to speculation as to why the top prospects are suited for these games and whether Anaheim should reconsider the importance of this tournament.
fear of zegras
Zegras has proven itself to be a perfect part of the Ducks roster. The former first-round draft pick is almost all but definitely going to be the center of the first line for this upcoming season. However, due to his age and position in the league, he was still available to play in this tournament. The tournament is a way for young players to shake off some rust before training camp officially begins, but, for Zegrass, it comes with the risk of a whole lot of unnecessary injury. For Anaheim, it almost became a reality.

During a game against an avalanche,
Zegras had been hacked and needed help to leave the ice. The play did not appear on the live stream, so it came as a surprise to many. He did not return to play as a precaution.
not the first time to duck
Now, this isn’t the first time Anaheim has seen its high-probability man get injured in this tournament. During the 2016 Rookie Showcase, duck forward Nick Kerdyles (36th overall pick in 2012) suffered an injury after being ridden by Nikita Zadorov. The hit resulted in a large penalty and the Creedles needed an assist to leave the ice. At the time of this injury, the Anaheim forward, “was returning to action after an injury and other injuries limited him to 45 games last season.” (From “Nick Kerdyles injured as Ducks skip third-period goal, lose to avalanche,” Orange County Register, September 18, 2016).
High School
Before they led the United States over Canada on Tuesday, Trevor Zegrass and Spencer Knight were 15-year-olds at Avon Old Farms, playing for head coach John Gardner and were just beginning to blossom into the stars who They have. to become.
It was at the team’s Christmas tournament in 2016 when Gardner noticed that two teenagers had it. The Winged Beavers played out Tabor Academy in a 3–3 draw at the end of regulation and a shootout ensued.
