While there are many high-end shortstops available in free agency, finding the perfect fit for the needs of the Detroit Tigers is complicated. This is a turning point for the organization, as they need to promote themselves to playoff contention without over-committing themselves in a single season. The Tigers don’t have much in the pipeline at the moment. So their need is long term at this time. However, while they could comfortably afford to do it, outclassing large market teams and locking in a decade-long deal isn’t necessarily the ideal solution either. There are other requirements specifically to participate in the starting rotation.
Carlos Correa fits in perfectly as a player, and an early shortstop and middle-order bat brings everything one could want. However, as we’ve discussed, he’s going to command a huge, long-term deal that will require the Tigers to engage in a potential bidding war with some of the biggest spenders in the game. They certainly could afford that without breaking the bank, but it’s a major commitment. Corey Seeger should be somewhat less expensive and pack an offensive punch equal to that of Korea, but he doesn’t really profile defensively well when moving forward in the shortstop position

MLB Rumors
Assuming the story is indeed committed to playing shortstop, that appears to cancel out the Giants, who are unlikely to move franchise legend Brandon Crawford from the position he still excels at. . Also, Rangers have newly signed Corey Seeger at the position. As for the remainder, they can probably accommodate the story’s desires. The Astros allow Correa to walk and there is a vacancy in the post. The Yankees have recently acquired Isiah Kiner-Falefa, but he’s hardly embroiled, and the Red Sox need a defensive upgrade over the otherwise highly skilled Xander Bogarts. If the story turns out to be second or third person, it clearly widens its market.
As for the story, we ranked him as the 11th free agent coming in the 2021-22 off season. RJ here Anderson’s writings

If you read Tea Leaves, it’s hard to imagine the Yankees not making an impact at signing shortstop. But given the potentially exorbitant costs of Carlos Correa, who recently announced that he was switching over to hiring Socket Boras as his free agent, it’s actually going down the road given his circumstances. Not possible.
His salary numbers may be out of class, even by Yankees standards, especially when you take into account the prospect of extending his superstar slugger, Aaron Judge.
