Al-Shaair struck Lawrence with a level of aggression one would not expect from a gentleman and football’s polemical character. Lawrence had just slid down the turf during the final minutes of the first half after gaining 6 yards on his run when this occurred. His head bounced off the ground as a result of Lawrence being pushed backward in a robust way. Jaguars tight end Evan Engram covered for Al-Shaair’s foul, which became the breeding ground for the first of two scuffles between the teams. Al-Shaair was sent off the field for an outlawed blow to Lawrence and the startled Official issued a personal foul against Engram in an effort to stabilize order.
The scuffle occurred within the approximate range of a few yards from Lawrence, on his back with his arms up at something resembling fencing stance – a reflexive position which is seized upon after one has suffered a head trauma. Lawrence was lying on the field for quite some time as the doctor’s staff worked on him till he was eventually carted off the pitch seated. The official diagnosis turned out to be a concussion and Lawrence was finally ruled out of the game at that point.
Aside from confirming that Lawrence is in the concussion protocol, Pederson did not have many answers straight after the match because, as he said, he had not yet spoken with the medical team. However, he did tell those in attendance that he had a conversation with Lawrence about the game during the halftime break, stating: “Trevor’s going to be fine”.
After the game, Lawrence was spotted leaving the locker room with his spouse, Marissa. On the evening of Sunday, he posted to X that he “came back home and felt better.”

In a game last Sunday, Trevor Lawrence was hit by Azeez Al-Shaair late in the third quarter and had to be carted off the field.
Earlier in the season, Al-Shaair was also involved in an altercation.
While playing against the Chicago Bears in October, Azeez Al-Shaair slammed Caleb Williams out of bounds when the quarterback was already stepping out. Williams’ teammates did not appreciate this and charged towards Al-Shaair. In the midst of the chaos, Al-Shaair punched Roschon Johnson, the Bears’ running back.
Al-Shaair did not get thrown out of the game since the officials missed the punch, but Al-Shaair was fined by the NFL after it for this incident.
Coach DeMeco Ryans said at that time “we know on Azeez’s side, we cannot throw punches or things like that as we know from Azeez’s perspective,” but still encouraged the tackle saying it was the kind of ‘physical brand of football’ he wanted from Texas since Williams was still in bounds.
The Sunday tackle was a definitely an illegal and reckless play sinca Lawrence had clearly gone for a slide and Al-Shaair contact the quarterback’s head. Al-Shaair, at the very least, will have to pay a much higher fine now than the one he was issued earlier this season.
