William Trevor Lawrence (born October 6, 1999) is an American football quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). Considered one of the most highly touted college football prospects, he won the 2019 National Championship Game as a freshman at Clemson and set the school record for quarterback wins. Selected first overall by the Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft, Lawrence had a breakout season in 2022 as he led the Jaguars to their first division title and playoff victory since 2017.

Back up
If Lawrence doesn’t play, the backup C.J. Beathard will make his first start since the conclusion of the 2020 regular season with San Francisco. Rourke, a former Canadian Football League player, will serve as the backup. He started 11 games for the BC Lions in 2021–22, throwing for 4,035 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Status
Trevor Lawrence has yet to miss a game in his NFL career, and the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback hopes his run of 40 consecutive regular season games over more than three years won’t end Thursday.
Lawrence has been in trouble this week after suffering a knee sprain in the final minutes of the Jaguars’ 37-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Jacksonville’s injury report listed him as limited for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Now with an important “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the New Orleans Saints, Lawrence appears to be in a wait-and-see situation.
Is playing tonight
Trevor Lawrence could play Thursday night. That doesn’t mean he’ll be able to do all the things he needs to do as quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Lawrence is questionable with a knee injury, and as a result the New Orleans Saints are 1-point home favorites at BetMGM. The line was Saints -3 at the beginning of the week, then dropped slightly as there was more optimism over Lawrence’s game status.
The fact that the Jaguars aren’t small favorites – before Lawrence’s injury, they were 1.5-point favorites in the lookahead line last week – is likely a factor in their inactives and C.J. Beathard is a defense on starting, but is also acknowledging he may not be fully functional four days after suffering a knee sprain against the Indianapolis Colts.
