Lobos started the season 12–0, including a win over No. 19 Connecticut, and climbed to No. 16 in the polls. They lost a few games to NCAA Tournament final teams South Dakota State and St. Louis, but also won at No. 8 Cincinnati. After a poor loss at No. 20 San Diego State, they won nine out of ten and secured the MWC regular season title, while reaching No. 11. Snell took a leadership role, adjusting to his calm demeanor – his mother dubbed him a “silent killer”, a nickname adopted by Lobo’s fans. [28] He scored 20 or more points in six matches, 25 or more in three games, but he struggled at times, scoring less than ten points in 13 games, with a minimum score of five. [26] In the MWC tournament, Snell averaged 17.7 points in a game, shooting 12–20 (.600) from three-point range. In the semifinal game against San Diego State, he scored three three-pointers in 55 seconds as Lobos took a huge lead.
