‘El Cucuy’ comes from Mexican heritage. However, he was actually born in February 1984 in Oxnard, California. His stepfather was a Scottish American. This is where ‘El Cucuy’ inherited the surname Ferguson. Despite being born in Oxnard, he grew up largely in Muskegon, Michigan.

Ferguson began training in MMA in 2007. Since then, he has competed in both lightweight and welterweight. So far, it looks like Ferguson has found a home in the lightweight division.

Ferguson officially made his UFC debut in the finals of The Ultimate Fighter Season 13, the season he won. He defeated Kevin Lee to become the interim Lightweight Champion of the UFC. He went on to a 12-fight winning streak that began in 2013. Big names like Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis and Kevin Lee were sent by Ferguson. However, there was one fighter that everyone wanted to see match with Tony. It was Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian was unbeaten in the UFC, breaking through the lightweight division with his tireless wrestling.

Tony Vs Khabib was the fight that fans, critics and even matchmakers wanted to see. It was set five times. Yes, five times before it was canceled for a variety of reasons.
