Thomas Michael Mulholland, “Tom” and/or “Tommy” lived a full and joyful life for others as a man who was true to the promises of his faith, at St. Jane de Chantal School, Gonzaga College High School Was formed from his early years. , Regis University, The Catholic University of America (CUA), and as an active and cheerful parishioner at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Rockville Maryland.
In early 2022, Tom was diagnosed with an inherited genetic condition, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (alpha-1), which often results in severe lung and liver disease. Although he fought the disease and complications with every beat of his brave heart, Tom was not able to receive a liver through transplant and died while in care at Johns Hopkins. Throughout his recovery journey he was surrounded by his devoted family and was never alone.
Funeral
Former Stuff columnist and popular mental health advocate Dr Tom Mulholland has died suddenly.
Mulholland, an advocate of mental and physical health, was 61.
His death has been referred to the coroner and is being investigated as a suspected suicide.
News of his death came to light on Monday and was confirmed by his children in a post on Facebook.
Son Tommy Mulholland said arrangements were being made for his father’s funeral in Wellington, which would be confirmed later this week.
“This is a loss for so many people, and we are all devastated. He has always been a supporter of mental health and has dedicated most of his life to the cause,” he said in a post.
Tributes have been paid to Mulholland, who until 2019 wrote a regular column for Stuff, authored two books, hosted TV and radio shows, and ran workplace health seminars across the country, including in Stuff newsrooms.
