According to auction site Leylands, a ball from past career touchdown pass quarterback Tom Brady as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has sold for $518,000.

With 3:20 to go in the fourth quarter of an NFC divisional playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams, Brady passed a 55-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Evans, extending the Rams’ lead to 27-20.

Since Brady had given no indication that he would retire, and at the time, there were only rumors that he was considering hanging it, Evans threw the ball into the stands. The fan that caught the ball sent the goods.

Brady’s first career touchdown pass (for Terry Glenn) as a member of the New England Patriots was auctioned off the site last year for $428,841.

A total of 23 people bid on Brady’s last touchdown ball, with an opening bid of $100,000. Some people on the site estimated that the ball could be worth up to $1 million.

Tom Brady just can’t leave. Not two months after the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback announced his retirement from professional football, Brady is racing back to the Buccaneers for his 23rd NFL season.

The quarterback announced his return on Sunday evening, saying he had received some “unfinished business”.

“Over the last two months I have realized that my place is still on the field, not in the stands,” he tweeted on Sunday evening. “That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it possible. I’m back in Tampa for my 23rd season.”

The 44-year-old will return to the Bux – the last team he played for before retirement – as the oldest active NFL player.

Unretired

Tom Brady once again shocked the NFL world when he announced Sunday afternoon that he was retiring from the NFL and would play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this upcoming season.

The seismic QB news — just days away from the official debut of free agency — sent shockwaves throughout the NFL and the sports world at large.
