Throughout his career, both as a player and a coach, Bowles has amassed significant wealth due to his achievements. Before the new deal, it was worth $25 million by some estimates.

Bowles began his coaching career with the Miami Dolphins and served until becoming the team’s interim head coach. He then moved to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he became the team’s secondary coach. He then became the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. His success there led him to win Assistant Coach of the Year in 2014.

Contract

Following the sudden news of Todd Bowles taking over as the Buccaneers’ head coach, we’re learning that the former defensive coordinator has received a new contract. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (via Twitter), the Buccaneers are scrapping the final two years of Bowles’ contract and replacing it with a new five-year deal.

Bowles joined the Buccaneers in 2019 as defensive coordinator, and after two strong seasons with the organization, he earned a new three-year deal last August. The new extension was finalized earlier today (per Schefter).

We learned earlier this evening that Bruce Arian was stepping down as Tampa Bay’s head coach and transitioning to a front office role. Following the news, Bowles released a statement thanking the Glazer family for the opportunity.

College

Bowles attended Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He played college football at Temple University (class of 1985), where he was a four-year starting cornerback for Bruce Arians, to whom Bowles was an assistant decades later. Bowles was signed by the Washington Redskins as a non-draft free agent on May 7, 1986. He picked the Redskins over six other NFL teams, and signed a contract that included a signing bonus of between $8,000 and $10,000. Bowles competed in training camp with free safety Rafael Cherry, and defeated him to earn a spot on the regular season roster. At his second training camp in 1987, Bowles defeated Curtis Jordan for the initial free safety assignment, when Jordan was released during the final roster cut on September 8, 1987.  He was the starting free in Super Bowl XXII. There were security, which Washington won in a jiffy.

Age

The NFL coach who made a name for himself on the coaching staff of teams like the Arizona Cardinals before earning his first head coaching job with the New York Jets in 2015. As a player, he won Super Bowl XXII with the Washington Redskins as a safety. He is 58 years old. 

He played college football at Temple University and debuted with the Redskins in 1986.
