Amusan, who finished fourth in the 2019 Tokyo Olympics and last in the world, clocked 12.12 seconds in the semifinals at Hayward Field on Sunday.

In the final, she won in 12.06, but with too many tailwinds for record purposes. Jamaican Brittany Anderson won the silver medal, followed by Olympic gold medalist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico.

Amuson took eight hundredths from 2016 on American Kenny Harrison’s world record of 12.20. This is the biggest time for a world record at the event in 42 years.

“At first I was like, where is the wind reading?” Amusan said (the wind was .9 m/s, well below the two m/s limit). “But then I didn’t really bother because the goal is to cross the line first.”

Amusan’s previous personal best was 12.40, which was set in the world first round on Saturday.

According to World Athletics, Amusan happened to be a handicap by chance. At the age of 13 or 14, she went to a meet with the intention of competing in the flat sprint and long jump. But by the time she reached, the only event left was the hurdles. He won that race, and the rest – especially Sunday night – is now history.

Net Worth

An estimated net worth of $1.5 million, Toby is said to be one of the richest Nigerian athletes.
