Meier began his hockey career playing in the Swiss leagues, and in 2013, he moved to North America to play for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He had an impressive junior career, scoring 118 goals and 246 points in 169 games.

In 2015, Meier was drafted ninth overall by the San Jose Sharks. He made his NHL debut in 2016 and has since become a key player for the team. Meier is known for his scoring ability, physical play, and strong work ethic on the ice.

The Sharks were dangling Timo Maier before the March 3 NHL trade deadline and the sweepstakes would not come down to the wire.

The Devils completed a deal for Meier on Sunday and added a leading goal scorer to their offense on what they hope will be a deep playoff run in the spring.

New Jersey seems to be hitting at the right time. The Devils have a tight grip on a playoff spot at 39–15–5 (83 points) and are three points out of the Metropolitan Division lead.

Trade Grade

The only thing keeping this from being an A grade is that Meier is a rental. The Devils could expand and that would be an A in my book, but now it looks like Myer will be finishing out the final year of his contract with the Devils. Regardless, it was Good Business by Tom Fitzgerald.
