For Tim Rosafort, this week’s Masters will be like no other. The longtime golf journalist will not be covering the prestigious tournament for the first time since 1983.

His absence has nothing to do with the coronavirus pandemic which delayed the Masters’ collapse. If only it was that simple.

How is doing

In my mind, Tim Rosafort will always be the bigger, stronger man I first met in the mid ’80s, cutting off the gorgeous figure of a pre-college football player who stayed in great shape and dressed impeccably. Tim was externally suppressed in everything he did.

Still, I learned very quickly that her most prominent trait was a permanent vulnerability. The former jock who was inspired to become a sports writer was humble and self-confessed about the professional challenges he took on. But it was accompanied by an attitude of gratitude—always looking to improve, always believing that being knocked down would mean getting right back up, always attuned to human comedy.

This made him funny, energetic, easy company. But more than that, it was Tim’s bold desire to enter the bigger arenas—in Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, the Golf Channel—that made him a consistent and outstanding achievement.
