Rumors have swirled over the past year about rival golf leagues that could challenge the PGA Tour and change the professional golf landscape as we know it.
Despite the $135 million offer report and non-disclosure agreements, none of the players have officially committed to leaving the Tour yet. But on the other hand, players like Tiger Woods, 82-time winner on the Tour and three-time winner and rising star Max Homa, have been vocal in support of the PGA Tour.
So if you’re wondering who’s running for the greener pastures of guaranteed pay, it’s safe to assume it won’t be one of these Tour players.
“If not the Super League,” McIlroy said when being asked a question about the league during his news conference ahead of the 2022 Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club north of Los Angeles.
“Oh, I’m so sick of it.”
“I think I’m interested in who will be (involved). Certainly for young people, like it sounds like a huge risk,” McIlroy said. “I can probably understand for people who are reaching the later stages of their careers, of course. I don’t think rival golf leagues really are like that; it’s not what they want, is it?
“They don’t want some kind of league that’s like the ex-Champions tour. I don’t know. I understand the financial part of it for people who are later in their careers. But you look at people who are already Na ke ke hai. (John) Rahm, No. 1 in the world, Colin Morikawa, myself. Like, you have the top players in the world saying no, so you have to tell something.”

Although these diverse groups have been quick to claim Woods as his own, he has been reluctant to address the question of which group he most identifies with. After an outstanding junior, college and amateur golf career, Woods turned professional in 1996 at the age of 20. Like his ideal Jack Nicklaus, Woods uses an interlocking grip rather than the verdon or overlapping style that most tour pros use. Woods has actually changed his grip position a bit over the years, from neutral to mild to strong. Recently (summer 2014), he has shifted to the stronger side.
Take a closer look at Woods’ setup and you’ll notice that the fingers of his left hand make an angle of about 90° to the handle and shaft. This helps him secure the club throughout the backswing with minimal pressure, and prevents the wrists from becoming overly active on the downswing.
As for Tiger Woods’ grip with the putter, it is a traditional reverse-overlap style, the right hand under the left, with both hands in a neutral or square position. He places his thumb directly in the center of the putter grip. Woods’ grip is suited to an arc-style stroke in which the face opens with respect to the aiming line going back, then closes after impact.
