Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens is staying in shape and hoping for another chance in the NFL.

The 47-year-old said he was told “to stay in shape” by someone in the league earlier this summer.

“I’m not washed up,” Owens said. “Once you know how to ride a bike, you know, you never forget to ride that bike. There’s no doubt, 100 percent, that I can play in the National Football League today.”

Owens’ last season in the NFL was with the Bengals in 2010, when he finished with 72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

He signed with Seattle in 2012, but only appeared in a few preseason games before being released.

“With that conversation that I had, they told me to keep myself in shape—anything can happen. And, so, that’s what I’m doing,” Owens said. “I can still play. Who can say what I can and can’t do. You can’t speak for me how my body feels. If someone can do it, so can I.” “

Owens was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018. He has always kept himself in great shape, but the expectation of him working out for the NFL team is getting to the point.

Owens was born to Marilyn Heard and her neighbor L.C. Russell in Alexander City, Alabama. At the age of 10, he identified his father after liking his daughter, only to learn that she was his sister. He grew up with three other siblings and was raised by his mother and grandmother.  He enjoyed watching football, especially his favorite players, Jerry Rice. However, Owens’ grandmother initially forbade him from playing sports until high school. Owens attended Benjamin Russell High School, where he participated in football, baseball, track, and basketball. Owens did not debut on his high school football team until his junior year, when a teammate missed a game due to illness.

The last time football fans saw Terrell Owens on the field with the Cincinnati Bengals was in 2010. Owens, then 37, took 72 catches for 983 yards and nine touchdowns – an impressive total for a player seemingly nearing the end of his career.

Despite being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018, Owens never officially made it out of his football career. The five-time All-Pro wide receiver has returned to the gridiron over the years. Now, his chance is knocking: Owens will join the fan-controlled football league, the league announced on April 6. This news was first reported by Frank Pingue of Reuters.
