Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, whose game, leadership and calm under pressure were credited as a key part of the Broncos’ 3-0 start, during their first 23-7 loss of the season to the Baltimore Ravens, Denver, on Sunday. sustained an injury.
Bridgewater—who took several big hits in the opening half, including his last pass attempt before halftime–was assessed for an injury at half before being officially ruled out in the third quarter.
Bridgewater is now in concussion protocol and must proceed through several phases – including examinations from a third-party therapist in addition to the team’s medical staff – before he can return to a conditioning drill first, then a non-contact position. Drill, then for a thorough practice. It’s a process that will, at least, take several days to practice with the team, even if Bridgewater isn’t suffering any ill effects this week.

The Denver defense was too much for New York to handle, so Bridgewater was not forced to keep the team on his back. Instead, he was responsible for the team’s only touchdown in the ongoing game. There will be weeks when the experienced signal caller will be asked to carry more load as he did in weeks 1 and 2. Bridgewater will be given the opportunity to do so when the undefeated Broncos host the Ravens in Week 4.

“Well, I think his performance was, you know, like the rest of the offense – we just weren’t good enough today after a touchdown drive,” Fangio said of the day of the lock in relief. “We couldn’t really do anything. We weren’t going to do it with Teddy after the touchdown drive. So, I think it’s more of an aggressively collective thing than a quarterback thing.”
