Taylor Heinicke (born March 15, 1993) is an American football quarterback for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Old Dominion and signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2015. Heinicke has also been a member of the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers, as well as the St. Louis Battlehawks. XFL. Commanders head coach Ron Rivera announced Tuesday that Taylor Heinicke would start in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers.
Heinicke will have his first start of the 2022 season on Sunday, and rookie QB Sam Howell will be his backup against the Packers. Rivera said he did not consider starting Howell, who showed great potential in the preseason.
“We think he’s on track, but Taylor gives us the best chance to be successful right now,” Rivera said of the North Carolina product.
On Monday, the commanders announced that Wentz had successful surgery on his fractured ring finger in Los Angeles. According to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Wentz is facing a recovery time of 4-6 weeks.
Rivera confirmed that the team would make a decision at the end of the week to place Wentz on injured reserve.
Heinicke last started a game in the 2021 season-finale against the Giants. The fourth-year veteran started 15 games for the Commanders last season, throwing for 3,419 yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions with an 85.9 QB rating.
The Commanders (2-4) aim to stay competitive in the NFC East against a Packers (3-3) team that has lost two straight.

Taylor Heinicke was born on March 15, 1993, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States to Brett Heinicke and Diana Dodsworth. He grew up with his brother, an older sister with whom he is very close. Taylor is a very qualified and educated person. To complete his coursework, he went to Collins Hill High School located in Suwannee, Georgia. In 2011, he received an athletic scholarship from Outdated Dominion College.
To complete his graduation, he went to Collins Hill High School in Georgia and was coached by his coach, Kevin Reich. Also, he received athletic scholarship from Outdated Dominion College. Currently, he is the head coach of Collins Hill High School. Also, he performed very consistently throughout his school career. Before signing a deal with the Washington Soccer Group as a quarterback footballer, he played for several well-known teams including the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, and Minnesota Vikings.

Heinicke, a graduate of Collins Hill High School, began the season as the back-up quarterback of the Washington football team before starter Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a hip injury in Week 1. a primetime broadcast on NFL Network. He completed six passes in a two-minute drill, setting up Washington kicker Dustin Hopkins for a game-winning field goal as time expired.
