Tasha Butts (March 10, 1982 – October 22, 2023) was an American basketball player. She played for the Minnesota Lynx of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was an assistant coach at several NCAA schools over 17 seasons. She was hired as the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas women’s basketball team, but died of breast cancer before her first game as head coach.

Georgetown University announced today that Tasha Butts has been named head coach of its women’s basketball program. Butts will be introduced to the Georgetown community at an event in Nolan Hall today at 4 p.m.
“I am very excited to welcome Tasha Butts to Hilltop as our new women’s basketball coach,” said Director of Athletics Lee Reed. “Coach Butts has seen success at the pinnacle of women’s basketball as both a coach and a player, and he will bring his expertise to our young women. I am confident that his experience and winning mentality will lead us to success.” Off the court, she has been a mentor to her players and understands what it takes to be a champion.
Breast cancer
Georgetown women’s basketball head coach Tasha Butts died on Monday at the age of 41 after battling breast cancer for the past two years.
Athletic director Lee Reed said, “I am heartbroken for Tasha’s family, friends, players, teammates and coworkers.” “When I met Tasha, I knew she was a winner on the court, and an incredible person whose drive, passion, and determination were second to none. She has excelled both as a leader and in her fight against breast cancer. demonstrated these qualities. This is a difficult time for the entire Georgetown community, and we will come together to honor his memory.”
Butts was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer in 2021, causing her to step away from the Hoyas women’s basketball program last month to focus on her health.
