Contract

St George Illawarra’s Tariq Sims has been told by the Dragons that he is free to speak to other clubs after contract negotiations with the club took an unexpected turn.

According to Nine’s NRL insider Danny Weidler, Sims was in talks with the club over his desire to extend his contract beyond its current term, till the end of next season. However St George Illawarra threw a spanner in the works, which could see the NSW Blues star depart the club.

News

Tariq Sims

Dragons coach Anthony Griffin has confirmed veteran forward Tariq Sims has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs and potentially leave next year.

Speaking after a season-closing 20-16 loss to South Sydney – with a concussed Sims taken to hospital “in a pretty bad way” and needing treatment for a nasty lip laceration – Griffin said the club had allowed the 31-year-old NSW Origin second-rower to explore his options.

Knights

St George Illawarra Dragons forward Tariq Sims was the star of the show against the Newcastle Knights. The bulldozing powerhouse put on a flawless display and bagged two tries to help his side beat the Knights 22-13.

But while his relentless runs and tenacious tackles were impressive, they weren’t even in the conversation when deciding his stand-out moment from the game.

A classy gesture from Sims mid-way through the second half not only ensured the safety of his rival opponent but also highlighted the type of bloke Sims is.

Tariq Sims’s estimated 2020 and 2021 income` earnings` and salary come to a total of $1,000,000.
