Flag
Tai Tuivasa, from the western Sydney suburb of St Mary’s, carries the Aboriginal flag of Australia at UFC 269 in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Tuiwasa carried the flag for singing Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ during his walkout inside the T-Mobile Arena and during a conversation with UFC commentator Joe Rogan after his fight with Augusto Sakai.
Aboriginal Australians are people who are closely related to the indigenous groups that lived in the island country prior to British colonization. ‘Bum Bum’ was born to a Samoan father and a Wiradjuri mother.
The Viradjuri people are skilled hunter-fishermen-gatherers. The black, red and yellow flag was adopted as a mark of Aboriginal Australian identity on July 14, 1995. It was designed by Harold Thomas.
Tuivasa defeated Augusto Sakai via knockout using punches in a time of 0:26 in Round Two at UFC 269. His heavyweight fight was part of the starting card.
Knockout
In a fight between two UFC fans, Australian heavyweight Tai Tuiwasa suffered a knockout blow against Derrick Lewis at UFC 271.
Against the most damaging puncture in UFC history, Tuivasa ate a bunch of punishment before he could pull out some dolls of his own, which Lewis couldn’t handle.
Back and forth in the second round, it was a brutal elbow that crashed Lewis to the canvas; Tuivasa sealed her place among the division’s elite with a walk-off finish.
“He is the king of the knockouts,” said Tuivasa after his fifth consecutive win in the UFC. “But like I said, I’m young… and now I’m taking charge.”
After a tentative start in the first round, with both men showing respect for each other’s power, things exploded after an inside visit from Lewis. In trouble, Tuivasa threw a flurry of blows to the ground, before getting back on his feet and responding back.
Lewis secured a second takedown in the first round, which included more fighting and wrestling than expected.
The second round followed a more predictable script as Lewis and Tuivasa came for the fence.
Hometown hero Lewis has had more knockouts than anyone in UFC history, but in the end, it was Tuivasa’s chin.
FTA
After defeating Augusto Sakai in the prelims of UFC 269, Tai Tuiwasa introduced fans to words like ‘FTA’ and ‘Eshay’ in his post-fight interview.
Ishay, on the other hand, is described by Urban Dictionary as “white skinny men who like to think they are ‘roadmen’ or ‘gangsters’.”
The Christian culture promotes a particular signature look, which includes nautica shirts and shoes from brands such as Adidas and Nike.
She was also seen sporting a classic ish look in the pictures posted on her Instagram feed.
Tattoo
Tuiwasa comes from two different cultures. His father is a Samoan and his mother holds a heritage of “Kuri” culture. Not only is Tai proud of his heritage, but he makes sure to show it to everyone when he enters the octagon through his tattoos and the flag of the Aboriginal people behind his back.
Tai’s tattoo is called Paya tattoo. This is done by an extremely painful and old fashioned way of tapping. It means flying fox and the name means deep “charcoal colour”. Paya is a form of Samoan art that reflects the identity of “masculinity” in their culture. A Pe’a is made from a man’s waist to his knee.
An interesting fact about tattoos is that each Paya tattoo is unique and different. However, a specific design is followed.
Tattoos also have their own sequence of applying ink which is always followed. The ink is first applied on the katham and the navel is always tattooed. One who stops in the middle, feels ashamed of not being able to complete it. Tai has definitely nailed it. However, it took him three months to complete it due to intermittent fights.

He weighed in at a combined 531 pounds, is renowned for his ability to separate lesser men from his senses, and bumped into the heavyweight scrap at UFC 271 on Saturday that was never going to disappoint.
When the UFC gets it right, the market leading MMA promotion gets it right.
And when it comes to matchmaking in the fight between Houston favorite Derrick Lewis and guy Tai Tuivasa, did the UFC get it right.
Tuivasa ventured into unconventional music in the Octagon, selecting Cindy Lauper’s smash hit from the 1980s, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.”
Because that’s what Tuivasa does best. He likes to drink beer from cowboy boots, sneakers, and even this week he suggested drinking it from his rival’s jockstrap.
He closed the distance in the opening round, engaging Lewis in a clinch, to deny the home fighter – competing in front of his crowd at Toyota Center – the necessary space to throw one of his merciless bombs.
