Steve Douglas Kerr is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association. He is an eight-time NBA champion, having won five titles as a player as well as three with the Warriors as a head coach.

Kerr earned a degree in general studies from Arizona with an emphasis in history, sociology and English in 1988. Kerr and his wife Margot have three children: Nicholas, Matthew, and Madeleine Kerr, who plays for the Cal Women’s Volleyball team.

Despite starting just 30 games in his entire pro career, Steve Kerr’s NBA resume is unmatched. As a player, the three-point sharpshooter earned five championship rings – three with the Chicago Bulls (1996, 97, 98), and two with San Antonio (99 and 2003).

He is an eight-time NBA champion, having won five titles as a player (three with the Chicago Bulls and two with the San Antonio Spurs) as well as three with the Warriors as a head coach.

Death. On 18 January 1984, Kerr was shot and killed by two gunmen. He was shot twice in the back of his head, by gunmen using suppressed handguns, in the hallway outside his office. His death was claimed by the Islamic Jihad Organization.
