Clifford finished his third season with the franchise with 96–131 and made the playoffs twice during his tenure. He had one full season remaining on a four-year contract signed by him in 2018.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Magic and Clifford agreed to a four-year deal, and Clifford will be officially introduced as the team’s head coach at a news conference on Wednesday.

Clifford spent the last five seasons as head coach of the Charlotte Hornets. He set a record of 196–214 during his tenure, and although he reached the playoffs twice, Charlotte went on to lead just 36–46 in each of the last two campaigns.
