Alabama and Georgia waited until Monday’s college football playoff championship to produce their first controversial play, perhaps the biggest point in the game. In his third of 27 and facing -8, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett rolled right to escape pressure from the oncoming Alabama Blitz. He appeared to be throwing the ball away, resulting in an incomplete pass or – at worst – a deliberate grounding. Except: ACC officials calling the game ruled that he had lost control of the ball before moving his arm, resulting in a fumble recovered by Alabama.
