Saint Peter’s University is a private Jesuit university in Jersey City, New Jersey. Founded in 1872 by the Society of Jesus as St. Peter’s College, the university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs to over 2,600 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. Its college mascot is Peacock and its sports teams play in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, of which it is a founding member. Basketball coach
Shaheen Holloway became the 15th head coach of the men’s basketball program at St Peter’s University in April 2018.
Holloway’s success with the program continued during the 2020–21 slump, his third season, taking Peacock through a 10–8 conference mark and an overall record of 14–11 to another top-3 MAAC finish. This was the first time since 2015–16 and 2016-17 that the event had back to back 10 MAAC winning seasons, and the first time since 2009–10 and 2010–11 that Peacock posted consecutive seasons with 10 or more MAAC victories. and an overall winning record. The team finished third in 2019–20 jointly with second place, achieving the highest back-to-back rankings in consecutive seasons since 1987–88 and 1988–89. Additionally, the team was a MAAC semifinalist for the first time since 2018. Holloway’s unit also enjoyed individual success during the season as several individual accolades were earned in 2020-21. Under his leadership, St. Peter’s has produced an NCAA Division I leader in blocked shots, a lefty Drisel Defensive All-American Team member, MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, two All-MAAC selections, one MAAC All-Championship team choice, one pair. did. In his second season at the helm of the men’s basketball program, Holloway was named the 2020 The Rock MAAC Coach of the Year. He joined Bob Dukitt (1982) and Ted Fiore (1987, 1989 and 1991) to become the third head coach at St. Peter’s to win the Conference’s Top Coach Award. Holloway guided Peacock to an 18–12 overall record and 14–6 MAAC points, good enough for second place, the best finish since 2016-17. Under his guidance, the team made the biggest net ranking improvement in the MAAC and 14th at the national level from 2018-19 to 2019-20, improving 105 places. 14 league wins.
