Trade

In an under-the-wire surprise, the Mavericks made a grand move on Thursday, trading Kristaps Porzingis to the Wizards in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Burtons. The 26-year-old Porzingis has played just 34 matches so far this season. He is contracted until 2024, provided he chooses a player option in 2023. Burton, 29, is signed until 2025, the final year of that deal not fully guaranteed. Dinwiddie, 28, is under contract until 2024, with only $10 million guaranteed for that past season. Let’s grade the deal for both sides.

Hmm. On one hand, Dinwiddie obviates the need to be placed next to Luca as a secondary ball-handler or to anchor some bench lineups. He’s also insured for Jalen Brunson, who is a free agent this summer and could get a healthy offer from another team. But Dinwiddie is not necessarily the best insurance. His season has not been good for the Wizards and his poor three-point shooting is a matter of concern. Let’s say the Mavs keep both Brunson and Dinwiddie this summer – then you’re allocating a lot of resources to the point guard. If Brunson leaves and Dinwiddie stays, the Mavs are significantly downgraded.

Although Ariel’s brother is in the NBA, she didn’t meet Spencer that way. This young woman has known the point guard since her college days. Spencer, who went to the University of Colorado between 2011 and 2014, met a slim basketball player who played for the women’s team. He came to like her behavior and tkhe two soon started dating. That player was none other than Ariel Roberson.

Even though Spencer Dinwiddie was drafted into the NBA, his love for the woman was powerful enough. Ariel knew that she was the one and continued to see him despite all the challenges. Their love life took to the next level when on April 20, 2018, Ariel welcomed the couple’s child, a son named Elijah. However, the couple has not married. We are hoping that they will get married soon.

If there was one bright side to Spencer Dinwiddie’s rehab from a season-ending injury in just three games in the 2020-21 NBA season for the Nets, it was that he was worse off than ever.

“The experience was completely different,” Dinwiddie told Chris Miller of NBC Sports Washington. “I was optimistic throughout the process. I was happy with the process. The mental side for me wasn’t nearly as hard as some might have thought it could be because I’ve been twice as bad at something.”

That double injury occurred when Dinwiddie was junior averaging 14.3 points and a 3.8 to help his Colorado Buffalo start the 2013–14 season 14-2. In a game against Washington, Dinwiddie’s left knee bent on a sharp break and his entire career was questioned.
