Vs East Carolina
Parker White knocked through a 36-yard field goal as time ran out as South Carolina Football beat East Carolina 20-17 on Saturday to secure their first road victory under first-year coach Shane Beamer.
Damani Staley returned a 63-yard interception for a touchdown just before halftime, giving Gamecock a needed spark after trailing 14-0 in an error-filled opening half. Former Bachelor assistant Zeb Noland had a game-tying touchdown pass to Dakarian Joyner in the back of the end zone at the end of the third quarter.
It was the perfect result for Beamer: flexible enough for a win, with obvious shortcomings to improve upon.
“I just told the team there that I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud of a football team than that group,” Beamer said. Better.”
In the end, Gamecock (2-0) did enough to give himself a shot, then jumped at the feet of JuJu McDowell—who conceded 45 yards on six carries on South Carolina’s final 10-play drive. What was meant to set up White’s winner was Gamecock spreading across the field from the sidelines to celebrate.

Vs ECU
The close loss, in which ECU actually led most of the competition, was hard on Houston and the Pirates. Still, he had plenty of positive comments to offer on Gamecock after the dust settled in Greenville, North Carolina.
Houston drew his highest praise for the South Carolina Football defense, which kept East Carolina for a total of 268 yards and 77 yards to quarterback Holton Ahlers at 11-24, with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
“That defensive line, you got at least one first-round draft pick, and you got two five-star kids, one of them being the top defensive end in the country coming out of high school,” Houston said. “We weren’t playing against mediocre players.”
