Golf
After Sonny Gray threw his first practice pitch before the fourth inning on Tuesday, he knew he was in trouble.
He felt pain in his right groin, a pain he had never felt before. The same happened on his second warm-up pitch as well. His third was his last, he nodded his head afterwards.
Catcher Tucker Barnhart walked onto the mound after the last warmup pitch with trainer Tomas Vera and pitching coach Derek Johnson. Gray chatted with Vera for about 45 seconds and then started walking towards the dugout.
Gray started Tuesday left with a tightness in his right groin. An MRI is scheduled for Wednesday morning to determine severity.
Trade
Gray is currently in his ninth season in the big leagues and has been putting in a very good number of appearances. Through nine starts, the right-hander plays 3.64 ERAs through 47.0 innings with 60 strikeouts with an 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings rate and 1.340 WHIP. Drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2011, Gray is currently in the second year of a three-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds that pays him nearly $10 million a season with a $12 million club option for the 2023 season.
While he struggled with the New York Yankees a few years back, his time with the Reds has revitalized his career and he is currently leading the rotation this season. With Cincinnati currently four games behind in a tight NL Central Division, there is a possibility that the club may choose to trade some of the assets on this year’s trading deadline.

According to an industry source, the New York Mets recently contacted the Cincinnati Reds to inquire about the possible trades of right-handed starter Sonny Gray and third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
With rotation help still on the team docks and the Mets looking for possible upgrades to third base, both players will be checking those boxes respectively.
