When does compete?

Simone Biles: When does compete?| Injury paris| Calf

Simone Biles is competing in her third Olympic Games, this time in Paris, and the gymnast is on her way to multiple finals this week after qualifying for four individual events, including the women’s all-around final.

Biles qualified for the all-around finals, placing first on vault and floor exercise, and second on balance beam, as USA TODAY previously reported. She did not make the uneven bars final, but Nina Derwel of Belgium made it to the first reserve spot.

Suni Li will compete with Biles in the beam and uneven bars finals as well as the all-around. If not for the two-per-country rule, Jordan Chiles would have been in the all-around and vault finals as well.

Biles made her Olympic debut at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and also qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, but dropped out after experiencing a case of the “twisties,” USA TODAY previously reported.

Injury paris

With women’s gymnastics qualifications complete, concerns grew for Simone Biles when the star gymnast appeared to injure herself mid-rotation. However, despite the injury, Biles plans to compete in Paris in search of more Olympic medals.

USA Gymnastics confirmed Team USA’s rotation for the team finals on Tuesday, announcing three team members for each of the four events. Biles, injured foot and all, and teammate Jordan Chiles will compete in all four events, providing relief for fans who were concerned about Biles’ ability to continue competing.

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team faced some uncertain moments in Sunday’s qualifying round, but they will enter the team final as favorites for gold.

Simone Biles topped the all-around standings after the second of five subdivisions with Suni Lee and also qualified for the floor, vault and beam apparatus finals.

For the first time, two Olympic all-around champions will face off in the all-around final when Biles and Lee go for the gold medal on Thursday.

Biles’s Paris chances were suddenly in jeopardy when she suffered a hard landing during floor warmups.

Her coach, Cecil Landy, said after the competition that Biles “felt a little pain in her calf,” but she never thought about withdrawing from the competition.
