The Beijing Olympics will be Shaun White’s final competitive ride in the halfpipe.
Confirming Saturday in Zhangjiakou that it would be his last Olympic Games – his fifth, aged 35 – White added some news: The Games will most likely be his last competition of any kind.
White has competed frequently in recent years to prepare for and qualify for the Olympics, where he has won three golds in four previous visits. He usually kicks off the rest of the season after each Winter Games.
“I have decided that this will be my last Olympics,” White told reporters at a news conference in Beijing. “I’ve given it my all. There have been ups and downs along the way. And with that, I feel like I’ve gotten stronger and better.”
