Ash-Shakur Nafi-Shahid Stevenson (born June 28, 1997) is an American professional boxer. He is the world champion in two weight categories, holding the WBO junior lightweight title since October 2021, the WBC junior lightweight title since April 2022 and the WBO featherweight title from 2019 to 2020. Shakur Stevenson was born on 28 June 1997 in Newark, New Jersey, United States, to Malikah Stevenson and Shahid Gayton. He is the eldest of nine siblings and was introduced to boxing at the age of just 5 by his grandfather, Wally Moses, who also owned a boxing gym in Newark.
His grandfather once joked that he always knew that Shakur was awake in his childhood while he would practice shadow boxing.
He began his early boxing training under his grandfather Vali as the veteran had a great influence on him.
He was named after the famous rapper Tupac Shakur, who was killed nine months after Shakur was born. He earned a gold medal as a flyweight boxer at the 2014 Youth Olympics for the United States. He also won a gold medal as a flyweight boxer at the 2014 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in the same year.
