Mother
Shakur Stevenson comes to his mother’s rescue in the middle of their post-fight press conference.
The 24-year-old attended his press conference with top-ranked boss Bob Arum and answered media questions when he overheard a brawl. The Newark native immediately lowered the mic with his belt on and ran out of the room.
According to Mike Koppinger, two women were accused of assaulting Shakur Stevenson’s mother, which led to an altercation. MGM Arena security then erupts into battle, and Stevenson’s crew and family members begin fighting alongside guards who were not allowing Champion or his mother to enter. The whole ordeal lasted for more than 15 minutes and local PDs joined in.
The two women are apparently accused of assaulting Shakur Stevenson’s mother, which ends the news conference abruptly when Shakur rushes to her aid. Wasn’t clear what was happening in real time.
Olympics
Shakur Stevenson’s dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal and ending the United States’ historic drought in men’s boxing ended in tears after settling for silver with a split-decision loss to Cuba’s Robesi Ramirez in the bantamweight final at the Riocentro. Went.
The highly entertaining clash of the right-wingers could have gone either way: official judges Trong Nghia Vuong of Vietnam and Fathi Madfoua of France scored 29–28 for Ramirez, while Evangelos Bogiokas of Greece scored for the teenager from Newark, New Jersey. Scored 29-28.
The result gave Ramirez his second gold after winning the flyweight division in London four years earlier, giving him Olympic titles in two different divisions after Ukraine’s Vasil Lomachenko, Russia’s Alexei Tishchenko, Cuba’s Angel Herrera Vera, Hungary’s László Pape. Became only the sixth person to win. and Oliver Kirk of the United States.
For Stevenson, named for the rapper who died nine months before he was born, it marked his first defeat in an international competition. Afterwards, he was beside himself in mourning.
