Highlights
Lewis opened with a low kick, but Pavlovich was pushing him towards the fence. Lewis began to swing, but the Russian hit hard and hurt “The Black Beast”. Lewis backed away and Pavlovich came into the swarm, a massive combination of simultaneous electric punches. Another right arm connected, and Lewis hit the canvas on his hands and knees. Lewis seemed to be in the process of getting back on his feet, but the referee intervened before Lewis had any chance to recover.
It’s pretty useless, because it should have lasted a little longer. Still, Pavlovich started with a warm up and stunned Lewis early on, a daunting feat in one way or another! As a result, he scored the biggest win of his career… even though Dallas fans didn’t like it.
Reach
Pavlovich defeated Derrick Lewis via TKO (punches) at 0:55 of Round 1 at UFC 277 in Dallas on Saturday.
This is the biggest victory of Pavlovich’s career against the most dangerous opponent ever. All you’re going to hear about is whether referee Dan Miragliota’s stoppage came too early, but the bottom line is that Pavlovich did his job and put Lewis in a position to compromise. The two men fired some wild shots early on, and it was Pavlovich who connected. The power of the Russians is clearly disastrous, although Lewis’s recent struggles with permanence certainly did not help either. The main concern about Pavlovich at this point is whether he has the secondary skills to beat the best heavyweight division. He can obviously win a brawl, but can he win a fight of another kind? We’re going to find out, because he’s pushing for the title match as soon as possible.

Sherdog
Count UFC President Dana White among those who thought the heavyweight fight between Sergei Pavlovich and Derrick Lewis could have been longer.
Pavlovich quickly shook Lewis in his main card bout at UFC 277 on Saturday night, and the Russian fired heavy punches to finish. The attack caused “The Black Beast” to fall forward and hit his head on the canvas, prompting referee Dan Miragliota to step up and stop the contest as Lewis returned to his feet. Lewis immediately resisted the stop, but to no avail at the time, as the bout ended just 55 seconds after the start.
While White understands Miragliota’s reasoning, he still thinks that Lewis should have been allowed to continue.
“I think it was too early, but to be fair – I think Miragliota is a great referee – the way he fell, probably nine out of 10 people in this room would have jumped on him and including me. The fight would have been put on hold, White said at Saturday’s post-fight press conference. “I like the referee, but I wouldn’t really argue it was an early stop. This was certainly an early stop.
