Serena Jameka Williams is an American professional tennis player. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era, and the second-most of all time behind Margaret Court. The Women’s Tennis Association ranked her singles world No. 1 on eight separate occasions between 2002 and 2017.

The Williams sisters are two professional American tennis players: Venus Williams (b. 1980), a seven-time Grand Slam title winner (singles), and Serena Williams (b. 1981), twenty-three-time Grand Slam title winner (singles), both of whom were coached from an early age by their parents Richard Williams and Oracene Price.
There is a noted professional rivalry between them— between the 2001 US Open and the 2017 Australian Open tournaments, they met in nine Grand Slam singles finals.

Richard Williams is an American tennis coach with a few children, including the tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. In 1980, Richard moved to Compton, California, where he raised Venus and Serena. He began training the sisters in Tennis from an early age.
In July 2016, Williams suffered a stroke. Lakeisha Williams, his wife at the time, stated that his condition was stable. However, he subsequently suffered additional strokes.
