Seiya Suzuki is a Japanese professional baseball outfielder for the Hiroshima Toyo Corps of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). Suzuki married former Olympic rhythmic gymnast Arie Hatakayama on 7 December 2019. They went to the same middle school as Japanese actress Seika Furuhata, and knew each other through a mutual friend. Suzuki represented the Japan national baseball team at the 2017 World Baseball Classic and the 2019 WBSC Premier12.
On October 1, 2019, he was selected in the 2019 WBSC Premier12. After leading the tournament with .478 batting average, .567 OBP, 1.130 slugging percentage, two triples, 9 runs, and 12 RBI, and tying for the lead with 11 hits and three home runs, he was awarded the tournament title. Was named MVP. On June 16, 2021, he was selected for Team Japan for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Seiya Suzuki has found a new home in Major League Baseball by agreeing to a deal with the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Suzuki signed a five-year, $85 million contract.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that it is the biggest deal for a Japanese position player to appear in MLB and the second largest after Masahiro Tanaka’s $155 million Yankees deal. David Kaplan of NBC Sports Chicago originally reported that Suzuki had agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with the Cubs.
Earlier in the off-season, John Heyman of MLB Network reported that Suzuki was going to be deployed to all 30 teams on November 22, with a signing deadline of December 22.

Projections
The Red Sox have been linked to several outfielders in the rumor mill, but one of the more popular targets has been Japanese star Seiya Suzuki.
Suzuki is expected to move overseas on the heels of a career year with Hiroshima Carp, in which he hit 317/.433/.636 with 38 home runs, 88 RBIs and nine stolen bases.
Those numbers would make him a superstar, but against the quality of the pitching we’ll face in MLB, we can’t expect him to continue producing at that level.
