The SEC Softball Tournament (sometimes referred to as the SEC Tournament) is the conference championship tournament in college softball for the Southeast Conference (SEC). It is a single-elimination (since 2006) tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner receives the conference’s automatic bid for the NCAA Division I softball tournament.

The 2022 SEC Softball Tournament takes place this week, May 10-14, in Gainesville, Fla., at Katie Seashall Pressley Stadium. SEC softball tournaments were held in Arkansas (2023), Georgia (2024), Auburn (2025), Kentucky (2026), LSU (2027), Missouri (2028) and Ole Miss (2029).
The SEC softball tournament will feature 13 teams competing in a single-elimination bracket, with tournament play starting Tuesday and ending Saturday. The 13 teams will be decided on the basis of their win percentage during regular season conference games. Here’s the bracket (from the SEC Softball Championship Twitter account)
The host institution (Florida) will have the first choice of time available to play their first game of the tournament and the bracket will adjust accordingly.
Here’s how the ties to seeding the SEC tournament will be decided in regular-season conference winning percentages.
1. Two-team tie. The following procedure shall be used in the following sequence until the tie is broken:
A. A win-loss record for a one-on-one contest between tied teams.
B. Win-loss record of the two teams versus the highest seeded common opponent.
C. Fewest runs allowed in a face-to-face competition. If there is no face-to-face competition between two tied teams, the fewest runs allowed against all common opponents.
D. Fewest runs allowed than all opponents.
E. Coin flip by commissioner.
2. Three-team tie (or more). If three or more tie teams have three different records against each other, they will be seeded in order of best percentage. Otherwise, once the tie is reduced to two teams, a two-team tie-breaker procedure will be used. The following procedure shall be used in the following sequence until the tie is broken:
A. Total percentage of wins and losses in matches played between tied teams.
B. Win-loss percentage of the tied teams versus the highest seeded common rival.
C. Fewest runs allowed in a face-to-face competition. If there is no face-to-face competition between the tied teams, the fewest runs are allowed against all common opponents.
D. Fewest runs allowed than all opponents.
e. If three or more teams are still tied, the commissioner will organize a draw.
Is the single elimination
The SEC Softball Tournament is a single-elimination tournament held each year at various SEC-convention campus stadiums. 13 of the 14 teams in the SEC make up the tournament each year (Vanderbilt does not sponsor a softball team).
The tournament has been held since 1997, when the SEC began sponsoring softball. In 1997 it was an eight-team, double-elimination tournament with byes for the top two seeds. From 1998 to 2005 it was an eight-team, double-elimination tournament with no byes. In 2006 it became an eight-team, single-elimination tournament. In 2013, Missouri and Texas A. with the addition.
The SEC Softball Tournament is an on-campus event. It revolves around all 13 schools with future sites set for Arkansas (2023), Georgia (2024), Auburn (2025), Kentucky (2026), LSU (2027), Missouri (2028) and Ole Miss (2029). .
The tournament is a 13-team, single-elimination format, starting on Tuesday and ending with the championship game on Saturday. The 13 tournament teams will be determined based on the highest percentage of wins during the regular season conference competition. The winner of the tournament receives the league’s automatic bid for the NCAA Championship.
The inaugural tournament in 1997 was a double-elimination event with six teams. The following year, the double-elimination bracket expanded to include eight teams vying for the championship title.
The first seven tournaments were held at neutral venues: South Commons Stadium (1997–2000) in Columbus, Ga., Jim Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn. (2001–2002) and Plant City Stadium in Plant City, Fla. (2003) In 2004, SEC softball tournaments moved to on-campus sites.
The tournament has expanded thrice in the past decade. In 2013, 10 teams earned a place in the championship. The tournament featured 12 teams for the first time in 2015, and in 2019, the bracket included all 13 teams in the conference.
