Patrick Sean Peyton (born December 29, 1963) is an American football coach and former player who is the head coach of the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). Peyton was quarterback at Naperville Central High School and Eastern Illinois University and played professionally for the Chicago Bears in 1987 and overseas in the UK in 1988. He began his coaching career as an offensive assistant for San Diego State University and held several assistant coaching positions on college and NFL teams before being named the tenth full-time coach in Saints history in 2006. Peyton has always been known for his offensive skills, having scored more points (2,804) and more yards (40,158) than any other team in the first 100 games to coach in NFL history. Payton has the second longest NFL single-team stint among active head coaches behind New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who has coached the Patriots since the 2000 season.

Suspension
League commissioner Roger Goodell responded to some of the most severe sanctions in the league’s 92-year history, and one of the most severe penalties for in-game misconduct in North American professional sports history. Defensive coordinator Greg Williams was suspended indefinitely, although this would be reversed the following year. Head coach Sean Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 season – the first time a head coach had been suspended since Chuck Fairbanks in 1978. General Manager Mickey Loomis was suspended for the first eight games of the 2012 season. Assistant head coach Joe Witt was suspended for the first six games of the 2012 season. The Saints organization were punished with a $500,000 fine and were forced to forfeit their second-round draft selections in 2012 and 2013. In May 2012, four current and former Saints players were suspended after being named ringleaders in a scandal, with linebacker Jonathan Wilma also being suspended for the entire 2012 season. He needs to be out of action for at least 10 days or “until he meets league requirements for a fully vaccinated individual to return to the team environment”. According to the team, Peyton will return for the Saints’ Week 16 game against the Miami Dolphins.
