High school coach
John Manion will be the first football coach for the Mountainside Mavericks when the Beaverton School District’s newest high school opens in September.
Manion spent the last seven years as coach at Silverton, where his teams went on to win 57–20 and the league championships in 2012 and 2014. Prior to that, he coached at Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California, since 1996, and became the head coach. 2007. During his time with the Foothills, the team won eight league and four sectional championships.
“He has clearly proven himself as running a solid program,” said Brian Sorenson, Southridge athletic director, who will assume the same assignment at Mountainside. “His character is something we want to see at Mountainside. He has strong leadership which the kids will follow.
