Sean Manaea takes the loss in quality start Friday
Sean Manaea took the loss Friday against San Francisco, allowing one run on three hits over six innings with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Fantasy Impact
Manaea tried to do it all Friday night, allowing just one run while picking up two of the Athletics six hits on the night. Despite the loss, Manaea still lowered his ERA to 2.91 on the
2021:
Watching Sean Manaea’s start on Sunday,
I felt giddy that velocity had come back as he sat comfortably at 92 miles per hour. His velocity was no guarantee after pitching through chronic shoulder impingements in 2017 and 2018, as he suffered a significant drop in fastball velocity and required shoulder surgery on his pitching arm.
After missing the final month of 2018 and most of 2019, Manaea roared back with a 1.21 ERA across five starts, still using an underwhelming fastball, and became Oakland’s starter in the Wild Card game against Tampa Bay.
Splits:
Injury:
The Oakland Athletics were dealt a serious blow in the middle of the postseason race and may be without starting pitcher Sean Manaea for the remainder of the 2018 season.
According to Jane Lee of MLB.com, Manaea was “shut down indefinitely” after it was discovered he has rotator cuff tendinitis. Oakland hasn’t ruled out a 2018 return, but Lee cautioned there is “a chance” he won’t pitch again for the rest of the campaign.
Perfect Game:
The Rays ended the perfect game when Randy Arozarena drew a leadoff walk in the seventh. And they broke up the no-hitter, somewhat fittingly, in the eighth when Brosseau, a teammate of Manaea’s for a year at Andrean High School in Merrillville, Ind., smacked a leadoff double. They even got another hit and a run to tie the score.
Wife:
Sean Manaea is currently single, according to our records.
