Scott Andrew Frost is an American football coach and former player who is the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Prior to Nebraska, Frost was the head coach at the University of Central Florida during the Knights’ 13–0, 2017 season.

Frost is the first Nebraska coach to lose the record in each of his first three seasons since Bill Jennings, from 1957 to 1959.
Before becoming a coach, Frost played football at the collegiate and professional levels. Frost was the starting quarterback for Nebraska’s 1997 national championship team. He also spent six years in the National Football League (NFL), playing mostly on special teams.

Scott Frost’s coaching ranks rose rapidly, culminating with the former Husker returning to his alma mater in December of 2017. He is 46 years old. Frost entered his fourth season as head coach of Nebraska in 2021 and his sixth season as a head coach overall.
It took Frost a little over a decade to go from first-year FCS assistant to head coach of one of college football’s most talked-about programs. It took Frost just two years to post his first undefeated season as head coach, as Frost guided UCF to the biggest two-year turnaround in NCAA history. They inherited a 0–12 team, scored a bowl game in their first season and then led the Knights to a 13–0 record in their second and final season in 2017.
Salary
Nebraska paid UCF $3 million to land Scott Frost in December 2017 and immediately signed him to a seven-year, $35 million deal that ran from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2024. The deal paid him off. Annual salary of $5 million.
Despite nine total wins – and a 6-12 Big Ten record – in his first two years, Frost was given a two-year extension after the 2019 season. While this did not include an annual increase, nor an increase in their performance bonus, it essentially reset their original deal and changed their purchase structure.
The new deal, signed on December 8, 2019, runs from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2026.
Playing career
Following his collegiate career, Frost was selected by the New York Jets as a safety in the third round (67th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft. As a rookie in 1998, Frost played 13 games. He played mostly in special teams, making six tackles and defending two passes. In 1999, Frost played 14 games with seven tackles. Playing in all 16 games in 2000, Frost made his career debut on October 29 against the Buffalo Bills.Frost received his first career interception against Bills quarterback Rob Johnson on September 17, and his first career sack against Rich Gannon of the Oakland Raiders on December 11.

In addition to his impressive success as head coach – Frost was the unanimous national coach in 2017 – Frost has been successful every step of the way along his journey to become head coach. His teams posted a 103–18 record in his nine seasons as an assistant coach, with Frost coordinating a top-10 defense and several top-10 offenses. Frost served as defensive coordinator for FCS semifinalists, was Oregon’s offensive coordinator in the inaugural College Football Playoff championship game and called plays for Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.
Frost, 46, is a proven winemaker familiar with Nebraska culture and tradition. He was part of two national championship teams as a Huskers player, coached in two national championship games as an assistant in Oregon and led the UCF to a 13–0 record in 2017, when the Knights were the only undefeated team in the country. .
