Saquon Barkley: Espn body| Is playing this week| Week 11

This is an online special from ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issues 2018.

Saquon Barkley shouldn’t have too much trouble adjusting to the bright lights of New York City. Running The Giants Back — and the latest NFLer to pose for a body issue — looks like there’s nothing to hide. In that spirit, Barkley opened up to ESPN’s Hallie Grossman about changing her philosophy on weightlifting, how she dropped her 40s and a piece of advice she gives to other aspiring football stars.

ESPN: Your training and your workouts have gone viral. Which moment is special to you?
SAQUON BARKLEY: My favorite moment would be my first power clean. Not the 405 one… the highest I got. My first Power Cleanse was my favorite because I didn’t really get it the first time. I failed I remember just looking at that board and seeing 390. I’ve never gone so high. But my coach and I were talking about what I should do. … I said let’s go for the record. Let’s try to tie the record – tie Anthony Zeitel – he’s a freak of nature. That was my freshman year [at Penn State] going into my sophomore season.

Barkley has had a disappointing season, with just 195 yards in five weeks. He hasn’t logged a single game with more than 60 rushing yards this year, though he did have five catches for 74 yards and a touchdown during a 27-21 upset win against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4.

The Buccaneers are one of the league’s strongest teams, but their defense suffers from playing at the same high level they reached during last year’s Super Bowl victory. With Barkley returning to the field, only wide receiver Sterling Shepard would miss out on the offense.

Barkley’s return helps the Giants in every way possible. We know that Daniel Jones does a great job of pushing the ball downfield, but he has trouble working the fast and intermediate areas. With Barkley, he has a checkdown option to gain yards if the play doesn’t develop the way he wants.

Barkley is also a great pass defender who can deliver good blitz pickups and is smart enough to find good angles to block defensive players coming after the quarterback.

The running back is in the fourth year of his contract and, even with his fifth year option active earlier this year, there is still some discussion about whether the Giants should offer him a contract extension. No. Returning to the field is a good way to respond, after all, it is not the first year of his career that he has suffered injuries.

Week 11

The New York Giants announced Week 11 inactives and Saquon Barkley is officially active for their matchup against the Buccaneers. Barkley was listed as a suspect this week due to an ankle injury. He was limited in practice throughout the week.

Barkley’s is active and has been trending like this for a long time. He’s got limited practice sessions, so this position comes as no surprise. The star running back is set to have a heavy workload in both the running and receiving games, which is great news for fantasy managers who held him after an ankle injury. Barkley may have a tough time navigating Tampa Bay’s defense, which is very good against runs. However, he is still an automatic start in all fantasy football formats. Managers who believe in being active for Monday’s contest have been rewarded, and will need a good outing from Barkley to win their matchup.
