Saxon (born February 9, 1997) is an American football running back for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). Before entering the NFL in 2018, Barkley played college football for three seasons at Penn State, scoring 5,557 all-purpose yards.

Saquon Barkley remembers walking into the Penn State Football Building in August 2016 when his mother called. She said that Barkley’s father was “abused” by police, in an incident that eventually led to a federal civil rights lawsuit.


“I remember how I felt in that moment,” Barkley told reporters at New York Giants training camp on Thursday. “It hurt me. It hurt me.”

Running back Barkley the Giants’ third year All-Pro, recalled the moment the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wis., was discussed. Barkley said the video of the shooting “makes you sick, especially a Black man” and that the team’s leadership council seeks ways to “spark change”.

Draft

Barkley was picked second by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft.

As a rookie with the New York Giants in 2018, Barkley set several league and franchise records in a season running 1,300 yards. He was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and was selected to participate in the 2018 Pro Bowl. With the Giants in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Barkley was plagued by injuries. He missed most of the 2020 season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears.

College

At Penn State, Barkley earned immediate playing time in 2015 as a true freshman. After running for a yard at a time during his first game, he ran for 115 yards with a touchdown in his second game against Buffalo. [15] He followed that performance in his third game against Rutgers with a run of 195 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. In October, he missed two games due to injury.

In his first game against top-ranked Ohio State on October 17, 2015, he rushed for 194 yards on 26 carries. During his freshman year at Penn State in 2015, Barkley ran 1,076 yards on 182 carries.

During the off-season, Barkley was praised for his freshman year performances and was awarded the Second Team All-Big Ten with a few votes for first team position and was named btn.com Freshman of the Year .
