It’s not often you can say you’re almost done playing for the day. Samson Nacua was so stunned by his big kick return against the Tennessee Titans that everyone in the stands and at home was watching. The New Orleans Saints wide receiver attempted a very short field goal just before halftime and returned it 106 yards, officially, before being thrown out of bounds around the 3-yard line.

β€œGoing sideways made it feel like an extra sixty yards. Because I got to that fifty-yard line and I was like, ‘My legs are gone,’” Nacua laughed to reporters after the game. He said he could hear his teammates on the sideline cheering him on and that energy helped keep him going. He’s still disappointed he fell short of the goal line: β€œOh one hundred percent I’m disappointed. Coach even said, like, ‘It’s the end of the half, no matter what comes of it, don’t mess with the ball.’ And what did I do? I got into a bad mess with the ball and I let the guys down. I should have handed it to that homeboy that was right there, let him get in there for me.

Samson Nacua had his preseason moment and then it was gone in an instant.

The 26-year-old wide receiver authored an incredible return of a missed field goal during the New Orleans Saints preseason matchup with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. After making his way through the Titans’ entire roster and rushing for 106 yards, Nacua headed toward the end zone. There was just one problem: He ran out of bounds at the 3-yard line.

The play happened with four seconds remaining in the first half. The Titans faced a first-and-10 on New Orleans’ 40-yard line. Tennessee decided to allow kicker Braden Narveson to attempt a 58-yard field goal. The Saints put Nacua in the end zone in case the kick fell short. That was it.

Nacua caught the ball nine yards deep in the end zone and immediately raced down field. He got some nice blocks, broke a few tackles and made several nice moves until he headed for the right pylon. As he got to it, he let his foot go to the sideline before diving for the goal line.

He got out at the 3-yard line and the clock had run out so the Saints couldn’t take advantage of his work.
