A high-profile former AFL player has been charged with smuggling a large amount of illegal drugs across Australia after police raided his Melbourne home.
Retired St Kilda defender Sam Fisher is being held in police custody after being arrested at his Bay Road property in Sandringham yesterday morning.
Police reportedly found drugs including ice and a GHB precursor on the property and confiscated a Mercedes-Benz, which they allege is the proceeds of the crime.

Police allege that Fischer, 39, is behind a large package of drugs confiscated in Western Australia on April 20.
The parcel reportedly contained about 1 kg of ice and 84 grams of cocaine hidden inside a kitchen appliance, which was allegedly shipped from Melbourne.
Earlier that day, WA police also confiscated a parcel containing $129,000 that was directed to be mailed to a Melbourne address.

Detective Inspector Craig Darlow of the Trident Taskforce said the statue was a ‘remarkable result’.
“There may be a perception that drugs can be easily concealed, although we have seen time and again that the police have the ability to detect and seize these substances,” he said in a statement.
‘This is a reminder that no matter where you are or how you work, we will target and hold those involved in the manufacture and smuggling of illegal drugs accountable.’
Fischer played 228 games for St Kilda in a career that lasted from 2004 to 2016. He was named the club’s best and fairest in 2008 and 2011.
