Cancer

Sam Docherty

On Friday, Carlton players will shave their heads to raise money for the Peter Mac Cancer Foundation in support of Sam Docherty.

Docherty, 27, is undergoing chemotherapy as a result of a second recurrence of testicular cancer.

In a social media statement on Tuesday, the Blues defender bravely revealed his second battle with cancer, saying he’s been “overwhelmed with the support” he’s received.

As you may be aware, one of our own, Sam Docherty, is presently battling cancer, and we want to express our support for him and the Peter Mac Foundation as a club and as a community.

Please join a group of players on Friday, October 8th, when we shave our heads in support of Sam. We’ll share before and after images, as well as films, and we’d appreciate it if you did the same, tagging the Carlton Football Club and the Peter Mac Foundation.

Testicular Cancer

Sam Docherty

Following a recurrence of testicular cancer in August, Carlton co-captain Sam Docherty has stated he is “feeling amazing” and has “powered” through the first half of chemotherapy treatment.

The popular Blues defender expressed his gratitude for the support he has received since his diagnosis in a moving statement on social media on Tuesday night.

Docherty said a movement by Blues teammates to shave their heads on Friday in support of the Peter Mac Foundation, organised by fellow captain Patrick Cripps, had left him “speechless.”

Wife

Sam Docherty

Earlier this year, the Blue wedded his wife Natalie in the Royal Botanic Gardens over Australia Day weekend, prompting rumours that a teammate of his became a little too loose and ended up sleeping the night in the bushes!

“I believe you were married in the Botanic Gardens. Very wonderful, with lovely woods and lakes. The trees are so beautiful that you could sleep under them!” Billy cracked a joke.

So Doc clarified the situation.

“There have been a few stories where there have been a few Chinese whispers, and as you know, when a whisper starts, someone tosses a little mayo on it as it travels around!” he laughed.
